In this unit, the main point is the numbers and the expressions used for asking and answering which maybe difficult for students to manage. Teacher should focus on it.

Period 1

Aims and demands:

Students can say and use the numbers: 1-12.

Key and difficult points:

Some of these numbers are difficult for students to pronounce correctly. For example: eight, eleven, twelve, etc.

Teaching aids:

Recorder, word cards.

Step1:Warming up

1.Daily greetings:

e.g. T/S1: How are you?

S2: I’m fine, thank you. And you?

T/S1: I’m fine, too.

(Do in pairs/ in a team)

2.Useful expressions:

e.g.1: T: What’s that in English?

S: It’s a crayon.

e.g.2: S1: Who’s he?

S2: He’s Gao Shan.

Step2: Presentation.

1.Show the “1”, read it in English, then show its word.

Students read after teacher in chorus, then in individuals.

2.Repeat step2.1 to present 2-6.

3.Practice the six numbers:

Teacher using fingers to show numbers, students say in individuals.

Teacher shows cards one by one, students read them.

4.Learn to recognize numbers7-12 by showing word cards.

Step3:Practice.

1.Read word cards in chorus/ in individuals.

2.Clapping game:

Teacher says a number or shows a number, students claps.

e.g. T: show card with 5 on.

Ss: clap hands five times.

Step4:Using.

Try to say some telephone numbers.

Step5:Consolidation.

Open the book and read after the tape.

Step6: Homework.

Listen to the tape for Pg26, read the words correctly.

2. Teacher says a number in a low voice, students guess what is it and pick the card out.

1)Teacher asks time, lead students to answer: It’s … o’clock.

e.g. T: Now, look. What time is it?

S/T: It’s one o’clock.

T: What time is it:

S/T: It’s three o’clock.

2)Present card “What time is it?” Students learn to read in chorus and then in individuals.

3)Let a student take the paper clock, change time and ask others to answer.

e.g. S1: What’s the time now?

S/S2: It’s 7 o’clock.

2.1) Students ask teacher the time, teacher elicit “Let’s go to school now.” “All right.”

2) Repeat 1) to elicit others.

Step3: Practice and using.

3.Open books to Pg24-25.Read the text after the tape. Then read by students themselves.

4.Teacher changes the clock’s time, students work in pairs.
