UNIT 3    Let’s learn
Period 1
Teaching aims:
1.Basic aims: a. To learn the letters: Rr Ss.
            b. To learn the words: rubber, sweet.
            c. Add a new word: chocolate.
2.Developing aims: using the words to make some sentences, make some dialogues or some rhymes.
Main points: To learn the letters and the words.
Difficult points: The pronunciation of ‘Rr’.
Materials: letter cards, picture cards, cassette.
Teaching procedures:
 
Pre-task preparation
1.    Sing a song.
2.    Ask and answer. E.g. What’s your name? What’s this?
Do you like…? Look at the… What colour is it? 
3.    Read the letters:

While-task procedure
1.  Let’s learn the new words.
(1)    rubber
a. Show a realia object and ask: What’s this?
       b. Read it.
       c. Make some dialogues.
         E.g.----Show me a rubber, please.

(2)    sweet
a.    Show a realia object: What’s this?
b.   Read it and make some sentences.
c.    Ask and answer.
E.g.---Is this a sweet?
   ---Yes, it is.
(3)    chocolate
a.   Show a realia object and ask:
Is this a sweet?   To elicit: chocolate
b.   Read it.
c.   Make some dialogues.
---Do you like chocolate?
---Yes, I do.
---Have a chocolate.
---Thank you.
(4)    Read the words together.
a.    Clap and say.
b.   Listen and touch.
c.    Match the pictures and the words.
            2.To learn the letters.
(1)    R r
a.   Show the students the picture card for ‘rubber’.
Say:  Look at this word. The first letter sounds/ r/.
b.   Read it.
c.   Compare the capital letter ‘R’ with the small letter ‘ r ’.
d.   Game.
Teacher holds up the capital letter. Students hold up the small letter.
e.   Say something about writing.
    (2) Do the same with ‘ S & s ’
 
Post-task activity
1.    Game.
Four students a group.
Teacher says ‘Aa Hh Ii Rr’ to a student.
Pass the letters.  If the last student says the same. They win.
 
Assignment
1.    Read the words and letters.
2.    Write the letters.

  To learn the seven words: window, door, bed, room, sofa, table, lamp.
2.Developing aims: Using the words to describe a room.
Main points: To learn the words.
Difficult points: Using some English to describe the words.
Materials: cassette, picture cards, a big picture of a room.
 
Teaching procedures:
 
Pre-task preparation
1.    Sing a song.
2.Make short dialogues.
 
While-task procedure
1.    To learn the word : window
(1). Point to the window and say.
   Look at the window. It’s clean.
(2). Read it.
 E.g. One window, two windows.
(3). Make some rhymes. 
E.g.  Window, window, clean,
     Clean, clean, window.
2.    To learn the word: door
(1). T: This is a window.
   Point to the door: Is this a window?
(2) Read it.  E.g. One door, two doors.
(3) Make some sentences.
  E.g. Clean the door. 
Look at the door.
(4) Make some rhymes.
  E.g.  Door, door, open.
       Open, open, door.    
3.    To learn the word: room
(1)           Look! What’s this? It’s a room.
(2)           Read it.
(3)           Make some phases.
E.g. a big room
4.    To learn the word: bed
(1)           T: This is a room. (Show a picture) 
      It’s my room.  What’s in my room?
     Guess to elicit: bed
(2)           Read it.  E.g. One bed, two beds.
5.    To learn the word: sofa
(1)    What else do I have in my room?
To elicit: sofa
(2)    Read it.  E.g. One sofa, two sofas.
(3)    Ask and answer.
E.g.  What can you see in my room?
6.    To learn the word: table
(1)    What’s this in my room?  To elicit: table
(2)    Try to say.
(3)    Follow the teacher.
E.g. Table, table, I can see.
    Table, table, for you and me.
7.    To learn the word: lamp
(1)           Point to the light. What’s this? It’s a light.
Show picture card for ‘lamp’ and ask:
Is this a light? No, it’s a lamp.
(2)           Read it. E.g. One lamp, two lamps.
(3)           Ask and answer.
   E.g. Have you got a lamp?
       What colour is it?
8.    Sing a song.
 
Post-task activity
1.    Read the words together.
2.    Which is changed?
3.    Free talk.
E.g.--- Look at the lamps. How many lamps?
   --- One, two, two lamps.

Materials: cassette, picture cards, the picture of ‘my room’
Teaching procedures:
 
Pre-task preparation
1.    Listen and act.
E.g. (Listen) Draw three cows,(act) draw, draw, draw. 
        (Listen) Clean the desk,(act) clean, clean, clean.
(Listen) Close your eyes,(act) close, close, close.
(Listen) Open your eyes,(act) open, open, open.
….  ….
2.    Review the words.
(1)    Match the word and picture cards.
(2)    Read together.
 
While-task procedure
1.     Learn to say: Close the window, please.
(1)    Look at the window. It is open. The wind blows. Let me close the window. Repeat several times and ask a student to close the window.
(2)    Try to say.
(3)    Practise: Close the pencil-box/bag/door/book…
2.     Learn to say:  Open the door, please.
(1)    Ask a student to open the book. Then point to a closed door and say: Open the door, please.
(2)    Try to say.
(3)    Practise: Open the door/book/bag…
3.     Learn to say:  Clean your room, please.
(1)    Show a picture of an untidy room.  Point to the and say:  This is a room. It’s dirty. What should I do? Clean the room, please.
(2)    Try to say.
(3)     Follow the teacher.
E.g.  Clean, clean, clean the room.
     Clean, clean, clean the classroom.
 
Post-task activity
1.    Play the cassette tape. Let the students listen and repeat.
2.    Practise in pairs. Have one student give the commands and the other do the actions.  Then let them change roles.
3.    Invite pairs to act out the dialogue.
 
Assignment

(2)           Using introductory ‘There’ to express facts. E.g. There is / are… in my room.
2. Developing aims: To describe one place using ‘There is/are…’.
Education aims: Let the students to love their homes.
Main points and difficult points:
 Using ‘This is …’ ‘There is/are …’ to express facts.
Materials: cassette, the tape of listening( 2parts),the tape of the sounds(the admire and bewail sounds),some pictures, cards. etc.
Teaching procedures:
 
Pre-task preparation
1.    Sing a song.
2.    Free talk.
3.    Revision. Show the fold picture cards:
e.g.  a pear/ three pears  an apple/ six apples
     a window / two windows   a bag/ four bags
 
While-task procedure
1.   The sentence: There’s…in my room.
(1)    Show a big picture of ‘my room’.
   Say:  This is my room.
(2)    Introduce my room: There is a bed in my room. There is a window in my room.
(3)    Show the writing: There is… in the room.
Say it one by one.
(4)    Point to the items in the picture. Let the children say: ‘There is…in my room.’
(5)    Listening exercises: Listen and show the pictures on their group desk. (Listen: 1.There’s a table in my room. 2.There is a sofa in my room. 3. What’s in your room? There is a lamp in my room.)
(6)    Listen again and check.
2.   The sentence: There are … in my room.
(1)     Show ‘two bags’ on the picture and say ‘There are two bags in my room’.
(2)     Show the writing ‘is’ : /are
Say it one by one.
(3)     Point to the picture. Try to say ‘There are… in my room.’
(4)     Listen to the song and design the room. Put the correct items on the paper of ‘my room’ which has been on the group desk. (Using the tune of ‘Table and chair’. The libretto:1. There is a table in my room. There are three sofas in my room. 2. There are three bags in my room. There are six lamps in my room.
(5)     Listen and check. Using the admire and bewail sounds to press “True’ or “false”. (The sounds are from the computer.)

Main points: Repeat the story.
Difficult points: The using of the prepositions:  on, under, in.
Materials: cassette, the wall chart.
Teaching procedures:
 
Pre-task preparation
1.    Sing a song.
2.    Free talk.
E.g.  Hello, how are you?
     What’s this?
     Where’s…?
     How many…?
3.    Read the words together.
e.g.  window---windows
 
While-task procedure
1.    Put up the wall chart for page 15
Say:  We are going to tell a story.
2.    Show the pictures 1 to 3 but 4 to 6.  Say the sentences for the first three pictures. Ask the students to guess what is going to happen.
3.    Uncover pictures 4 to 6 one by one and tell the students what is happening in each time.
4.    Play the cassette tape for the students to listen to native speakers saying the lines while they look at the pictures in their own books.
5.    Play the cassette tape again and ask students to repeat the story after each line.
6.    Get the students to read the story aloud together.
 
Post-task activity
1.     Divide students into groups of six. Ask them to tell the story together, each member of the group reading one line.
2.     Workbook page 10: Listen and colour.
 
Assignment

(2)    Read the rhyme slowly line by line.

(1)           Show students pictures for page 16
   Ask: What animals can you see?
       What colour is it?
(2)           Read the rhyme slowly line by line.
(3)           Students try to say.
3.    Practise the rhyme.
(1)    Play the cassette for the rhyme.
Students follow and read the rhyme.
    (2) Invite pairs of students to act out the rhyme to the class.

Say the rhyme again, with boys saying one verse and girls the next.
